100 Days of Drawing: Day 13

This one is close to my heart as it's a drawing of one of my all time favourite birds, the sulphur-crested cockatoo. Why is it? Well as a kid we had one as a pet, and man do I have some stories about old Charlie the Cockatoo. In the beginning, when I was young we both hated each other and he would chase me around the house to scare me, as he was a bit of a sadist. But when I was a teenager we were best mates, I loved that bird, he was such a character and literally was a member of our family. Unfortunately he died/disappeared when I was still in high school (long story) and even though that was over 20 years ago, I miss that crazy bird, he was one of my best mates. One day I hope to get a cockatoo/parrot of some sort for a pet as I love them so much. Anyway here it is:

I tell you what, it wasn't easy doing a primarily white bird I can tell you, but I'm happy with how it turned out.

100 Days of Drawing: Day 11

Today I thought I'd try something different and have a go at some realism with pencil and what better thing to draw than my favourite animals, birds. I found this picture of a beautiful Peregrine Falcon in one of my reference books and had to draw it. I also have to credit my wonderful wife yet again for starting me on this challenge, which I'm loving, and also she's doing it as well and has already done some fabulous bird pictures. So I got the idea from her, thanks baby! Anyway here is my falcon:

What do you think?

100 Days of Drawing: Day 4

Another thing I plan to use this challenge for is to practice drawing some stuff and work on so other things I've had in the pipeline for awhile now, like this. This is for a comic strip I'm working on and I still can't quite decide on what the main character should look like, as you can tell I gave a basic idea, kind of based on me, but it's the finer details I haven't sorted out yet.

100 Days of Drawing: Day 2

I've been drawing dinosaurs a bit of late as both my sons love them, but they say that having children is one way of keeping you grounded and to make you feel humble. And it's true, no matter what I draw, my boys never seem to be very impressed, just once I'd like a "Wow, daddy that looks awesome!", no I usually get "I want one! Draw me a different dinosaur!". Oh well.....
