A Little Feeling

This week's cartoon is another fine example of why you should always carry a notebook with you and write down whatever random ideas you have....well, that is if you're trying to come up with useful ideas that is. This one came from me seeing a poster for some cold and flu pills that had something about 'Feeling a little horse' and that was all I wrote in my notebook, was that exact phrase. Last week I was sitting at a cafe drinking a coffee whilst looking through my notebook that I usually carry around in my back pocket when I'm out and about, when I came across the horse idea. 

I always knew the idea would revolve around feeling up a horse of some sort, but what I did with this one was combine that idea with a really old joke I knew, which goes something like this: "A guy calls up his boss and tells him he can't come into work because he's sick and the boss says: 'really? How sick are you?' of which the guys replies: 'well I'm in bed with my sister...'". I have no idea why that particular joke popped into my head at that moment, probably 'feeling sick' and 'feeling horse' sparked something. 

Anyway, I really loved the idea mainly for 2 reasons: 1) I love drawing horses....no idea why, I just do and 2) I'm a big fan of also drawing the facial expression the horse has, not sure what you'd call it, but I like it. So I was very keen to draw this one as you'd expect, and I pretty much went home and started on it  right away and as it was really easy it was all done quite quickly. There's not all that much detail in it, which helped and I probably could have done a different, more detailed background, but hey, it wouldn't have any effect on the joke so who cares right?

The Pool Pony

I'm back! Did you miss me? Did you notice I was gone? I'm sorry that there was no cartoon last week and a real lack of updates, but I've been moving house so it's be unavoidable I must say. I had a few issues getting my internet back up which was to blame for last week, it took almost 2 weeks to get it transferred as the chick who did my transfer was new and she basically cocked it right up. So I'm still really pressed for spare time at the moment, and my birthday was last Saturday so I've been quite busy, so another old cartoon this week.


This cartoon probably came from that one of my favourite animals to draw, for some unknown reason, as horses. I have no idea why, it's not like I'm a massive fan of horses or anything, I'm a bird guy honestly.....Oh and I really did like the idea of a horse humping a kids pool toy, who wouldn't?


So I'll really try and get some new stuff up again soon, I am super keen to 'test out' my shiny new office workspace and to also upload some photos of it...once it's clean and organised, seriously there's shit everywhere at the moment. So until next time!

Horse Envy

So apparently today is a public holiday, which I'm sure everyone except us realised this. I even drove my son to daycare this morning and to my surprise it was closed! So no new cartoon this week, sorry. Which brings me to my new years resolutions this year!

1) Try and always have at least a couple of back-up cartoons ready to go so I can occasionally have a day off or if something comes up. I'm aiming to try and have 2 cartoons done every Monday, at the least, finish one and have half another done.

2) Do more mid-week updates, if anything I plan on just posting up some random sketches, how does that sound? Sometimes I plan to do some writing and stuff, but at least I can throw up the odd sketch if all else fails.

3) To celebrate the 1 year anniversary of this blog I plan on giving the whole site a massive overall and update visually. I also plan to finally migrating this over to my www.brinkscartoons.com website, essentially replacing it with this one. I'll still keep the old one there somewhere for prosperity.

That's it, well that's my resolutions evolving this blog anyway, I have more, I'm just not sharing in case I fail them miserably. 

This cartoon is a really old one, you can tell by the really silly signature I had back then. God knows what I was thinking! This was early on in my career when I still had lettered.....strangely enough I only just recently started doing it again, and it looks way better than it did back then....ahhh progress. It's an old one, but also it's one of my favourites, I think because I have a thing for ancient mythology and I also enjoy drawing horses for some reason.....hmmm maybe I should do a horse comic strip, oh speaking of which I really should add a number 4 to my resolutions: "Start a comic strip", I've always wanted to do a regular comic strip, is this the year?? Anyway, I hope you like this comic and I'll be back next week with a new comic and I'll try and do a mid-week update this week as well!
