The Books of Face

So the mighty Facebook was down last week for about 1/2 and hour and everyone seemed to lose their shit, so I thought I'd do a cartoon about it. Probably should have done it on the day,, but oh well, better last than never. As much as everyone lost it when it happened, I think the biggest response I saw on the internet was everyone making jokes about it, which is cool, because honestly it's not that big of a deal. I think the reason everyone did make a big fuss about it as Mark Zuckerberg has always bragged about the fact that Facebook never goes down and one thing you never do on the internet as a famous person is hold up a piece of paper for a photo (don't believe me, look at all those scam photos of Bill Gates holding up a piece of paper) and you don't brag that something won't happen.with your website. I'm amazed it's taken this long honestly.

Anyway, that's it, hope you like it!

Real World Satisfaction

Here's an idea I've been meaning to do for months now, but I knew it would be finicky and take some time to do....and yes it was, kind of. It wasn't my usual quick one panel cartoon that's for sure, there was quite a few things going on in this one. There's 3 complete drawings and then I spent a fair amount of time in Illustrator laying it all out and playing around with text, colours and the background image. So exactly did I get this idea? Well a few months back....actually it might have even been last year, anyway not important, a friend of mine Kane posted something on his Facebook page about people who only post and comment on Facebook to get some weird emotional satisfaction. Which I guess is true, as weird as it sounds, there is some strange satisfaction you get from it, hence why you always keep checking after you post something to see what responses you got. Hey I get pissed when someone re-posts something I posted that I re-posted from someone else and the person who re-posted from me gets more likes and responses than I did.....now that's messed up, and a very awkward sentence to type. But I still don't understand Trolls, how you get enjoyment and satisfaction from starting arguments and getting people pissed off is beyond me.

Oh, so anyway as I was reading Kane's status, which ironically got quite a lot of comments and likes, I thought "I wonder if you could make a machine that could give you more than just emotional satisfaction from Facebook? Like a sex machine" So straight away I had the basic idea down, I think it took me awhile to decided on how to actually do it after that. I was going to do it as my normal single panel, but it would have been too busy with text, that and I've been meaning to do some more "Brinkco" fake ads since the first "WifeStation" (http://brinkscartoons.blogspot.com.au/2013/12/the-next-generation.html) one I did awhile back as I'm a fan of "New Invention" type jokes and I like the idea of my own retail outlet that just sells all this sort of strange crap. I was always going to have something about vaccination in this one, as every single time I've made any comment about child vaccination on Facebook it has always started massive arguments and lots of comments and likes and it never fails to get people all fired up and argumentative for some reason. I actually do prefer Star Wars to Star Trek by the way.

I haven't done these invention type jokes in awhile, I used to do them a bit back in the old days. I had a series of them that I submitted to the magazine I used to work for that were "Inventions for the Serious Drinker". As you can guess, they were all inventions to help the serious drinker, things to help you act sober when you're completely rotten drunk, pretty much. So what do you think of the whole "Brinkco" fake ads thing? I want to explore it some more and see what I can come up with, I think I really need to sit down and play around with the logo and the basic layout so it can just be an easy cut and paste for the content so future ads will be quicker and easier to do and therefore I won't procrastinate doing them so much next time.

Anyway, hope you like it, until next time!

Food Court Paranoia

Hello again, did you enjoy the bonus cartoon from Friday night? You're welcome. So here we are for another regular old Monday cartoon! There's not much to tell about this one, I got the idea whilst sitting in a shopping centre food court eating my lunch and looking at Facebook on my phone. I happen to notice a chick next to me using her phone, now I don't know about you, but I'm the paranoid type so I just assume the person next to me is talking about me on their phones, no idea why anyone would. But anyway this one day I thought it would be ironic if we were both on social media commenting on how we both are paranoid about the other talking about each other. As usual I wrote this idea down and stewed on it for a bit then brought it out last week and drew it.

Did some more experimenting with combining real images with my cartoons this week, I did plan on taking a photo of a food court myself but I ran out of time so I turned to my old friend Google Image search! But those Twitter and Facebook windows are just screenshots of my own accounts, of which I have stuff all followers....join me www.facebook.com/brinkscartoons and  twitter.com/Mr_Brinks you know you want to!

Anyway, I'm out

Status Priority

As you may know, I got married about 3 weeks ago, what you may not know is that we did what I now call a "stealth wedding". As in, not a lot of people knew about it....well obviously the people who came knew, but other than that, not a lot of people. This started out as it took us some time to let everyone know, that and I wanted to tell as many people in person as we could, which slowed things down a tad. So we had to keep it quiet until everyone involved knew and once everyone did we still kept it quiet as it was kind of nice and as it was a small wedding we were a tad worried about people getting pissy about not getting invited.
My point with all this? Well we did let everyone else know eventually, after the wedding in a rather dicky way....via changing our Facebook relationship status to 'married' when we got back to our hotel after everything. We know it was dicky, but we didn't care, it's what we wanted to do. So as you can guess, that's pretty much where this cartoon idea came from. Hope you like it!

Cheers,

Mike
