Dangerously Large

One of the things I often worry about when I do cartoons is sometimes some people won't get a joke as they don't know who or what I'm making fun of in the first place. Last weeks was a good example of this, I'm sure quite a few people don't know who LeBron James is, especially if you don't follow basketball, but I did it anyway. Because, well I love basketball. Now this week's cartoon on the other hand, surely everyone, whether they want to admit it or not, knows who Ron Jeremy is right? If you don't know the name than I'm sure you know his face...and his junk. Here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ron_Jeremy, I'm certain every man alive has seen at least one porno with Ron in it, women, I don't know, maybe, maybe not. In conducting my 'research' on this cartoon (seriously not as seedy as it sounds, I pretty much just Googled his name) I found out that Ron has his own rum! http://www.rondejeremy.com/ Wow, didn't see that one coming...which is a change as it usually is comon to see when Ron is coming......sorry, couldn't help myself on that one.

The title of this cartoon came from a line in last weeks cartoon (the new Starbucks coffee size being referred to as "dangerously large" http://brinkscartoons.blogspot.com.au/2014/07/egolatte.html), I did want to call it "This is the reason why it doesn't exist" but that was way too long, and I kind of liked the connection to last weeks cartoon as well. These 2 cartoons are similar format comic strips, and the joke makes fun of something of a famous person being large, so why not connect them in another way as well. 

Anyway so this idea was a kind of mash-up of 2 other ideas, one about just how painful it is to stand on Lego pieces, (which if you haven't before, trust me it hurts like hell) and another random idea I had about having a porn star Lego Playset. I've often talked about this, that I sometimes get seemingly unrelated half ideas at different times and at a later date I just happen to think about both and combine them to make a good, usable idea. So never dismiss or throw away ideas people, you never know when they may come in handy.....wait, is there another bad Ron Jeremy pun I can use there as well???

The Wanking Dead

So after all my drama's and such I went out and bought a new scanner, and it's pretty awesome I must say. Feels good to finally finish this cartoon as I think I started drawing it about a month ago! I had all the pencil work done about a month ago and I finished the inking last week when my scanner died and I've been colouring and finishing it off last Friday, phew! What a mission! There was a fair bit of work in this one compared to normal so I plan on going into it in more detail on Wednesday for a Special Features post, so look out for it. Now that I have a whole day to draw cartoons again I can do more stuff like this that might take longer than my usual quick cartoons. 

I've had this idea for a bit now, as I'm a big fan of The Walking Dead comics (This is actually inspired by an actual Walking Dead comic cover, #30 to be exact), so I probably got the idea whilst reading them, I don't quite remember honestly. The only thing I was a tad unsure about was how many people in the world know what a 'wank' is? I know it's "Chiefly British Vulgar Slang" (Thank you http://www.thefreedictionary.com/wank) and mainly only used in England and Australia. So I hope you American guys actually get the joke, I'll let freedictionary explain again: 

"1. An act of masturbation." Get it? 

Even with these concerns I just knew I had to do this anyway as I really loved the idea, and hey if only Aussies and Pom's get it then so be it, I can live with that. I just hope all the Americans read this post to get the joke.

Sly Predator

Have you ever sat there and wondered "How would a Predator stash his porn?"? No, just me then...oh well.

So I've been putting off doing this cartoon for the last couple weeks as I knew it was going to be a bit of a challenge to draw, mind you I do love a challenge, but I'm a master procrastinator so it took me a few weeks. Sometimes it's a good idea to sit on an idea for a bit to refine it and think it over some more in your head, this is a perfect example. You see the original idea was that the Predator was using his cloaking device to cloak his big box of porn, but after awhile the nerd in me realised that, that was dumb, as the female Predator would still see it now wouldn't she? Eventually I thought that the best way for a Predator to hide something was to cover it in mud like ol' Arnie did in the first movie. I had to be careful with this one as I didn't want to resort to dumbing it down by using a caption, so therefore I had to make sure that the Predators at least looked like Predators (once again thank you Google image search! I'd be screwed without you). I really enjoyed drawing a Predator wearing a apron by the way, hehehhe. Originally she had hair rollers in, but it looked a little too silly I thought and didn't work with the dreads either. I did place the very obvious "Mud" on the bucket of mud as I was worried people wouldn't get it, in fact I still have that worry now, well if you've never seen Predator....then go see it, it's awesome, damn....go get the other 2 they're good as well, go on I'll wait.  Anyway so this did take me a little bit longer to draw than normal because of how much detail, hence why it's  now 8:45pm and I still haven't posted this yet, shit I should get a move on!

Funny story about a box of porn, last time I moved cities quite a few years ago I made the tough choice to finally ditch my box of porn I'd accumulated during puberty (I wasn't dragging the damn thing halfway around the state). Now, where can you dump a box of porn? Fucks me, I just left it in the shed of the house I moved out of, my thinking was I'm pretty sure the real estate won't call me up to tell me I left a box of porn behind! Ha! Man that would be an awkward phone call! I should have found some teenage boys who needed it....except that's kind of creepy and possibly illegal, plus I'm sure it would have freaked them out anyway as this was mid to early 90's porn mags, back when ladies were a lot more hairier than in porn these days......ahhh the good old days, wait a minute is 'good' the right word here? If only the Internet was around when I was a teenager, my box of porn would be full of discs!
