Well look at that, a cartoon about Starbucks and I didn't make fun of them! Well, kind of, I did kind of make fun of their cup sizes and the stupid, pretentious names they give them. But the main 'punchline' is a LeBron joke! If you didn't already guess, I'm an NBA fan and not a fan of LeBron James....he's a douche and he has a massive ego. When I came up with this idea, his ego was always the punchline, I did try and think of someone else with a bigger ego....hell I even tried thinking of anything bigger and I couldn't. So I just stuck with this one, which kind of sucks if you don't know anything about NBA...it sucks because you obviously don't know what you're missing. Get onto that shit! 
Me personally, I've been a New York Knicks fan since the mid 90's and I've stuck with them through all the years of them sucking. But now we're finally getting better! Now to all those in the know, yes I know we have Carmelo Anthony who also has a massive ego and is a massive douche as....but dammit he's our douche! And he's nowhere near as bad as LeBron and LeBron just plain old shits me off.

I'm planning on doing some more strips likes this instead of single panels as I've been coming up with ideas that can't fit in one panel. It's taken me some time to get used to not restricting my ideas to one panel like I've done for so long. Sometimes I like restrictions though, it forces you to be more creative, but of late I'm trying to 'free my mind' and open up to just coming up with a useable idea and working the art around that idea and not the other way round. In the past I've come up with an idea and then brainstormed how to make it into a single panel gag. I've got heaps of different ideas in different formats that I'm working on as well, it's just my time constraints that's holding me back at this stage, a single panel cartoon is quite easy and quick to do. That and I'm also planning on doing a lot of new stuff when my new website finally gets finished....it is happening trust me, some day soon......in fact let me just send and email off....

Hard to Swallow

If you've been keeping up with this Blog for awhile now or you just know me well then you know that probably my 2 favourite companies to make fun of, because I don't like them or their products, is Apple and Starbucks. So any opportunity to make a joke at their expense and I'm all over it and Starbucks is easy, seriously their 'coffee' tastes like shit. I know the flavoured, frozen, fancy bullshit drinks are ok, but it's a coffee shop right? So the normal "coffee" should be good as well, plus I never buy the 90% sugar flavoured fancy drinks anyway....hence why I never go to Starbucks. The other one that cracks me up is a coffee chain here in Australia called "The Coffee Club" which, even though "Coffee" is in their title do really, really bad coffee and as with Starbucks, at least their food is good. I'm just assuming "The Food Club" didn't have the same ring to it.

So, the other day I was by myself at my local monument to consumerism doing some shopping and I spotted a cute girl walking out as I walked in and I thought "Wow, she's cute" until I saw that she was drinking a Starbucks "coffee" and my first though was "Damn, what a waste, she obviously has no taste". I wonder if this lack of "good taste" is also apparent in the rest of her life? Does she drive a Volvo with an Apple sticker on the back? I bet she dates complete douchebags as well. Anyway, after I had this thought I knew it could make a good cartoon idea, so I wrote it down straight away.

When I came to developing the idea, the first was literally just a visual of what I first thought, a guy checking out a girl and then being put off by her drinking a Starbucks "coffee". But I knew I could crank it up some more, so I worked on it in my head a bit more and focused on the whole 'taste' thing which led to this. I think I also got to this idea as I've been worried about the fact that since becoming a dad I've been mellowing out my jokes and they've been getting 'cleaner'. So I've been trying to get back to my filthy roots again, plus my wife always says she thinks my dirty jokes are better, so you can't argue with that.

It Can Only Get Better

Greetings my friends, how are we all?

Well, I finally got around to accepting a cartoon idea challenge this week. Awhile ago my mate Daniel suggested I do a cartoon on the difference between good and bad coffee. It took me a bit to get some good ideas out honestly, and pretty much all of them revolved around Starbucks, what can I say, it's well know and they make really freakin' bad coffee. So off the bat here, I'm a massive coffee snob, I grind my own coffee at home and I've pretty picky about where I get my beans. When it comes to buying coffee when out and about, I pretty much avoid all the major coffee chains, as they taste like balls. I really struggle to understand why these places like Starbucks and Gloria Jeans are so popular, but I have discovered something. You see every time I see someone I know drinking from these places I ask them what they're drinking and I've come to the conclusion that most people that go to these places pretty much just get all the 'fancy' flavoured, funky drinks. You know why? Because the flavouring covers up the god awful taste of the coffee itself, and yes I actually don't mind the cold chiller things you get, but for a good old simple Late or Cappuccino fuck no. I heard someone once say that Starbucks Coffee doesn't taste like coffee, it tastes like Starbucks....so true. Like the title of this one says; it can only get better, so I'm sure human urine probably would just enhance the flavour. The idea I was originally going to do was a Starbucks employee in the backroom violently anal raping a giant coffee bean and using it's tears to make the coffee, because I'm pretty sure that's what they do to get that foul flavour. But I thought that might be a little bit too much, so I scaled down the idea a notch to end up with this one instead.

Oh and in case you were wondering, I had another lazy Friday night last week, so I skipped on the Friday Night Art, I promise I'll do one this week though.

I follow my pageview stats on this blog site pretty closely, I probably shouldn't, but I do and it's good to see that my stats are slowly increasing and I pretty much hardly ever have a day without pageviews these days, which is sweet! It also amazes me the views I get from all over the world, it's awesome. But I always want more, I just need to be patient, I've been reading up on some ways to improve blog traffic and one point was to never give up, most people give up after the first year or so, but you just need to keep slogging away and eventually it will happen. So that's what I'm doing, and thanks to everyone that helps me by posting and liking my links on Facebook and other sites, it's much appreciated! You guys rule!
