Please Let it Go

In case you didn't know, my main gig is being a stay-at-home dad looking after my two boys who are 2 and 4 years old. They both love the movie Frozen at the moment, my youngest more so than my eldest (he sometimes yells out "let it go! Let it go!" randomly during the day), so I bought them the soundtrack to play in the car. Now I knew this was a bad idea before I even bought it, bad idea for me that is, but I'm a considerate parent so I bought it anyway. Now, half the album is score music, which I can handle as there's no lyrics to get stuck in my head....but I didn't count on the fact that when the singing is over I get a backseat request to go back to the start all the time. So now all I hear in the car is the Frozen soundtrack, so I now have Frozen songs stuck in my head all the time, it's driving me insane! Seriously I sometimes wake up and boom, already one buzzing around in my head. These songs are like dog shit on a carpet, you just can't get rid of them that easy.

You can probably guess how I then got this idea then right? Originally is was just going to be the first 2 panels only, but I eventually thought up the whole "build a snowman" angle and added that on. I liked the idea that these parents are on the knifes edge of sanity and that hearing one line from Frozen will just push them over. I think us "Frozen Parents" need a support group or something....we need it, that or just something to get these damn songs out of my head!

Parenting Pro Tip

I've been a bit sick this week and I didn't have a lot of spare time to do a cartoon, so as usual when this happens I has all ready to post an old cartoon from the vault, when my wife suggested I do a quick Mothers Day cartoon instead. I think she actually meant just a drawing like I did for New Years Eve last year, but I thought about it and wondered if I could do just a quick pencil cartoon instead. 

So instead of my usual jokes, I thought I share some parental advice and yes, I often wait to use the toilet when something is on TV to distract both my boys as I don't need an audience while I take a crap, it's weird and very off putting I must say. Perhaps if they provided me with some motivational type words like a personal trainer that might be useful....but probably even more creepy now that I think about it. 

All you parents know what I'm talking about, for some reason small children find what their parents do in the toilet fascinating, which it's not on the least. I get the same thing when I mow our lawn, my boys find it fascinating, I find it dull, repetitive and boring. Which I'm sure they will once they're old enough to do it, and trust me, when they're old enough to do it, they'll do it all the time as I hate it. The timing for this is good for you Americans as it's Mothers Day now, but here in Australia it was yesterday, when I actually drew this, so enjoy and share with all the mothers out there! Happy Mothers Day.

I actually enjoyed the challenge of this, this is just a scan of a pencil drawing, but I still used Illustrator to do the text around the cartoon, but that's it, nice and quick. I think I knocked this all out in about an hour or so, doing all the inking and colouring would have added another hour or so on top, an hour which I didn't have. Plus I wanted to see if I could do it and how it would turn out. What I might do is, one day I'll ink and colour this one just to see how it turns out and then I can show you to compare the two. What do you think?

The 10 Year Difference

Can you take a wild guess how I got this idea? Yep, last Tuesday night I was sitting a very similar looking chair in a very similar position as this. Just not covered it quite so much vomit, and the vomit I was covered in looked like feta cheese, oh yeah, it was nasty. My youngest son Kylar has been sick and it all seemed to culminate on Tuesday night with chunky vomit. I pretty much had the exact thought the guy in the cartoon has, so it was a bit of a no brainer when it came to doing this cartoon. Life is always good inspiration. Ah, kids are fun.....
